They faced every step together

Arla and Elidiot grew up with severely bowed legs that made walking painful and everyday life harder. When surgery became possible, brother and sister took the next steps side by side.

Meet Arla and Elidiot

When Arla's legs began to curve as a toddler, her father, Christophe, searched for a way to help her. A few years later, he noticed the same thing happening to her younger brother, Elidiot.

Walking long distances became difficult. Mornings could be painful. And both children experienced teasing because of the way their legs looked.

After waking up, they need some time to rest before they can start walking.

Two surgeries. One journey forward.

When their father heard that Mercy Ships was offering free surgery, the family decided to try once more.

Aboard the Africa Mercy®, Arla and Elidiot received the orthopedic surgery they needed. Then came rehabilitation, where brother and sister once again did what they had always done: faced the challenge together.

  • Arla and Elidiot prepared for surgery side by side, just as they had faced years of challenges together.

Same hands. Different future.

Before surgery, Christophe asked for a photograph of his children holding hands. He wanted another one after treatment so their community could see how far they had come.

Help another child take their next steps

For Arla and Elidiot, surgery meant more than straighter legs. It meant the possibility of walking more easily, arriving at school on time and playing with friends without feeling embarrassed.

Other children are still waiting for access to the surgical care they need. Your gift can help make life-changing surgery and rehabilitation possible, giving more children the chance to move forward with greater freedom and confidence.

Help make the next story possible.
